September 4: After a nice breakfast at the inn, we took the shuttle to the trail head. The inn owner, Eric, pointed out the sign at the trail head, which read Appachian trail, instead of Appalachian. Always double check! (I'd say measure twice, cut once, but the actual size of the sign was fine) The morning was a nice hike through forest paths, with a slow gradual climb. We stopped for lunch at Pleasant Pond Lean-To where we saw Beetlejuice. After lunch, we started the climb up Pleasant Pond Mountain. Again, not too bad terrain, pleasant weather, nice views from the top. We descended to Moxie Pond Road and then onto the south end of Moxie Pond. There were a bunch of hikers rock hopping across the pond. Although, they were taking "rock hopping" quite literally with giant lunging leaps from rock to rock. I watched their technique and decided that the giant lunging leaps would be a really bad idea on my little hobbit legs. So after a quick sustenance break, we took off our boots, donned our crocks, and forded the pond in knee deep water. During our ford, we were joined by the Professor, Peaches, Wilson, Mother Teresa. We all dried our feet and put our shoes back on before climbing up to Bald Mountain Lean-To. Nice shelter,
