Gear changes

Ok, so we did the obligatory gear post for starting out. Things have changed since then. In the ever present functionality versus weight dilemma, some things can stay but others must go.
I started the trail with two - TWO - trail guides ! Craziness. But I was unsure as to which would benefit more. I can assure you , it did not benefited to carry two.
WORTH THE WEIGHT:
The Thru-hiker's Guidebook by "AWOL" Miller. The elevation maps and shelter mileage are great.
EXPELLED:
The Thru-Hiker's Companion --AMC
I had planned on mailing this back to my dad so he could follow along, but I met some people who were hiking with nothing at all and had no idea how far the next shelter or town was at any time. So I just gave it to them. Less weight for me, more info for them.

Very nice of you to pass the book along and help someone else out. It's nice to keep up on how you're doing. Happy trails !!

Hi, I'm Heather, AKA "Pink Lady". Welcome to my blog.  I'm so excited to share my adventures as I embark on a thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail.
While you're here, be sure to check out  the charity I'm hiking for: Devoted2Children a  great organization which funds a home for orphaned children in Haiti.
