Then, we got some more trail magic from Slick and his wife.
And once again, right after we set up camp and made dinner, the rain started. Three days of perfect timing!
June 29: Sub and I had a leisurely morning, since Road Runner had not made it to Lickville the night before. We slept in late, ate breakfast at the hotel, and checked out at 10. We caught a ride back to the trail pretty quickly. We started the day by crossing a lovely iron bridge. The terrain was fairly easy, we were going along at a good clip, unsure if we were chasing Road Runner or on front. We left a note in the shelter log, letting him know that we would meet him at the 501 shelter. Shortly after lunch, we got some trail magic from Ron, who was hiking along, handing out apples and religious literature. (I read it, it seemed kind of all over the place to me) Then, we got some more trail magic from Slick and his wife. They were talking about the German guy who was airing his tent out at the iron bridge around noon. So we were ahead of RR! We ended up taking a long break at tend trail magic stop to wait for him. We then decided to bypass the shelter and go to the Hertline Campsite 8 miles further on. Nice spot, good water.
And once again, right after we set up camp and made dinner, the rain started. Three days of perfect timing!
