Upon getting dropped off at Port Clinton, we ran into Hugs. I had thought she was 3 days ahead of us! Turns out she took some time off the trail and was now pulling big miles, trying to catch up to Funky Town.
We started the day with a big climb out of the gap. We were all feeling pretty good after our rest day and the climb didn't seem so bad. We stopped for Elevensies at a shelter at the top of this climb, joining Hugs. Patchouli and Barbarossa joined us later , and then Tom, a guy we had met in Shenandoah.
After our break, we continued on level, somewhat rocky terrain with some good views at Pulpit Rock and Pinnacles Rock. We passed an astronomy park, with several large telescopes.
We ended the day at Eckard Shelter, which was located .3 miles down a road. There was a caretaker's house, a privy with a cold water shower, and water from an outside tap. We ended up tenting across the street in the tenting area with Patchouli and Barbossa while Rabbit, Sparky, Woodman, Professor, and Waffles took the shelter.
Really nice spot, nice weather, and lots of lightening bugs looking like fireworks after dark.
