We kept the pace slow with lots of breaks today. Not quite as humid as yesterday and not as many bugs, but HOT! Over 100 today.
We took our first break at RPH Shelter- cinder block with garbage cans and lounge chairs. Rumor is, you can have pizza delivered to this shelter.
More forest walking today, rocks are becoming less and less.
At 2;00, we came to a road crossing with a deli a short distance down the road. We stashed our packs behind some rocks and headed down. Flavor, Whitey, Angus, and Kodiak are there already, wilting in the heat. Whitey's dog is not doing well in the heat- he is yellow blazing to Kent and getting a room. The others are going to hang out till sundown and hike at night. Sub and I have food and drinks and push on.
We reach our destination, Poughquag around 6 and get a ride to a motel from a passing taxi. Like many of the small independent motels along the trail, this one is shabby and run down. But it has a shower and air conditioning!
